Wayne, MI- In what was the main event of WXC 70, Josh Brueckner took on Devin Smyth in the WXC welterweight division. Both fighters exchanged a bunch of kicks before Smyth tried for two take downs but is only able to land on the second attempt. Brueckner tries for a triangle but Smyth slams his way out. Smyth maintains top position in guard but Brueckner is controlling the posture well to minimize damage. In a scramble Brueckner traps the foot but Smyth lands a big right over the top. Smyth stands again to land a big kick as he gets back on top in guard. That is also where the rounds one ended.
Much like the previous round, both fighters start round two throwing kicks. A quick break in the action as Smyth gets hit below the belt from a Brueckner kick but they then resumed the action as Smyth landed a hook. Smyth got another big punch in before landing another take down. Smyth lets Brueckner up and lands a head kick as Brueckner forces the clinch. More kicks from both, Smyth sliped but Brueckner wasn’t able to do anything with it. Round two ends as Smyth sweeps the leg and gets a big right in as Brueckner is falling down to the canvas.
Brueckner tried to get a take down but is met with hammer fists from Smyth instead. Brueckner maintains a clinch to begin round three. Brueckner re engages for a take down but Smyth scrambles and got on top in guard. Ref stands them up after Smyth was not doing enough work. Brueckner charges in but Smyth times it perfectly for another take down. Brueckner tried rolling for an omaplata but Smyth rolled out as round three ended.
After all three rounds the fight went to the score cards. The judges scored this one 30-27 and 29-28 on two cards for Devin Smyth, who is the WXC 70 main event winner by unanimous decision.
