Shatri wins action packed co-main event over McLaughlin

Wayne, MI- Moe Shatri battled former training partner Brandon McLaughlin at lightweight for the co-main event of WXC 70. Shatri striked first as he wobbled McLaughlin a bit. McLaughlin worked for a hip toss but Shatri was able to switch and put McLaughlin on the fence. Shatri then landed a big knee before launching a flurry at McLaughlin. Both fighters then reset as McLaughlin went in for a take down. Shatri sprawls and landed a few shots before McLaughlin countered and jumped to take the back of Shatri. Moe shruged him off and got guard. Shatri immediately starting throwing. He let McLaughlin stand up before he then unleashed a head kick that McLaughlin ate just before round one ended.

McLaughlin countered a Shatri leg kick with a punch to double leg entry take down. He got into the guard but Shatri was being aggressive and trying to change positions. Shatri then got passed but spun and McLaughlin is then able to take his back. Shatri was very close to getting out  of the back mount but McLaughlin adjusted and kept the position. McLaughlin worked hard for the rear naked choke but Shatri was defending it well. The crowd then erupted as Shatri got on top in guard. He tried to work some offensive but backed off and let McLaughlin stand up. They then head to the third and final round.

Shatri landed a nice left hook before a brief clinch. McLaughlin came right back to the clinch and was able land some short knees to the body. McLaughlin pulled Shatri off the cage and landed a take down. He passed for side control as he started working for a choke. Eventually Shatri got back to his feet and pushed McLaughlin back in the cage. Shatri worked in knees as final bell sounded.

After all three rounds the fight went to the score cards. The judges scored this one 29-28 Shatri, 29-28 McLaughlin and 29-28  for your winner by split decision Moe Shatri. McLaughlin falls to (4-4) while Shatri improves to (6-2). For the results on the rest of WXC 70, click here.
